As of today (12/20/2008), mortgage rates seem pretty low. Are they expected to go lower still?
So here's my problem, I don't think anyone can fix it for me, but I'm at my wits end, and need some kind of guidance. I have been working my butt off since I was 16, currently I'm 27, and I've done many kinds of work. I've worked in hay fields, Burger King, sports retail store, dry wall and painting, machine maintenance and operating, auto repair, sales and promotions, and delivery. I moved from Tx to upstate Ny 2 years ago to be close to family, and since then I've been laid off 3 times, my credit is a joke now, and I've emptied my savings just trying to stay afloat. My bills are due and overdue. Now before everyone starts saying that I'm not trying hard enough to find work, I've got dozens of apps out, and have called on them all, my resume is posted on several online websites, and I have been to the dept of labor with no positive outcomes. I have scoured this town and the next one over, still no results. Are there more options, maybe something I'm missing? I'm starting to feel depressed and have pondered getting myself committed or arrested, just for the free education, food, and board. Also thought about leaving Ny and going back to Tx, but I don't have the money to get there and get myself set up. I guess what I'm asking is, is there any better websites (don't say monster.com either, I've tried and failed there too) or government assistance that could help me?
as you probably know, it's not the responsibility of government to find people jobs, but I see some states working hard to bring large businesses to their state. I see in the Dakotas that there are oil jobs but you'd need a place to live as there are none, so I suspect if a person moved there in their RV or something smaller they could get great work. Craigslist has put out some jobs but with sinister results (deaths in OH, theft in others, etc.) in a few situations so be careful what job you accept, make sure it's for an existing company and over 10 people and know someone who actually works there. You didn't say you had vocational training or college education of any kind. That might be helpful. The Subway sandwich shop has great turnover and so do telemarketing jobs. People are needed in medical these days and will for the next 20 years, like a CNA or home cleaner or helper. Check with places like Home Instead Senior Care or Kelly Senior Services. They're always looking for male workers because they get some male clients who might be bedridden and need moved and females don't have the strength. You can get food stamps. Don't worry about (credit card) bills for now. Lots of guys find gf's who will take them in. Maybe you can move in with parents or relatives, that's what most people are doing. From what I hear TX has more jobs than NY. I know some computer phone support is there too. Places like FL are warm for the winter, people live out of their cars or tent cities Catholic Charities have set up. Sometimes a person has to just find a base and start their own business.
