I applied for an apartment and they told me my equifax credit report is frozen which it shouldnt be because i never froze it. Every time i call it says to mail two forms of I.D and my 10 digit pin. well i have no pin because i didnt freeze it and when i go to the website to unfreeze it it only gives me the option to freeze it, not unfreeze. what is going on?
Someone else froze it. Since someone else is messing with your credit report, it would probably be best to have it be frozen, but obviously with a different PIN (not known to the person who froze it). Follow the procedure for dealing with a forgotten PIN to get the PIN changed. Do a one-time unfreeze for the apartment. Immediately, refreeze it with a new PIN.
You need to call them again & ask for a supervisor. Explain that you never had a pin (I know I don't & I've had an acct with them for daily pulls for years!) Let them know that you can answer anything they ask. If they say something about a pin...tell them you need a new one. KEEP at them...don't let them get over on you. This is YOUR information,, they are simply the holder of that info. If they continue to say no...seriously, send a letter to your State's Attorney General's office. They don't like hearing about this kind of abuse, and will help you. Let EQ know that you are not going to put up with their crap. Period.
