Hound car insurance for total reimbursement for rental?
I planned to drive out of state for Christmas, but then I got in a car accident in the middle of December. My rental allowance from GEICO is $25 per day ($750 max total), which during most parts of the year is fine. GEICO does direct bill rentals through Enterprise. You can't take Enterprise cars out of state, so I had to pay out of pocket for my own rental car for Christmas and plan to get reimbursed. The cheapest thing I found was Budget. However, I was still $5/day over my allotment for the12 day rental. When I got back into town and went back to Enterprise for a GEICO-paid car, all they had left were SUVs. The Enterprise guy gracefully charged me for a full-size car instead, but I'm still $6/day over my allotment for a 6 day rental. (Even the economy/compact cars would exceed my limit). GEICO told me that I can send receipts of my overage to the liability person to use in their fight against the other insurance company and I will get it back they are able to recover some or all of their money for the claim. However, a friend told me that I should not have to pay anything at all since it was it was a bad time of year to rent a car in general, GEICO-contracted Enterprise didn't have economy/compact cars in stock, and because GEICO-contracted Enterprise doesn't allow out of state travels. What do you think?
Your insurance will not pay for more than your policy limits. Those bastards at Enterprise really need to stay out of the insurance business and stop interfering with claims. They do it to us ALL the time, putting people in larger cars than allowed. And then we have to explain to some pretty unhappy people that we aren't going to pay. Your friend is also wrong. I'm sorry.
